The Netherfield Ball brought about many changes for the population of Meryton, and more so to the Bennets of Longbourn. Mr. Bingley’s departure left Miss Jane heartbroken whilst Mr. Collins’s proposal induced Miss Elizabeth into a hasty escape. While hiding in the woods from her overbearing mother, Elizabeth happens upon the arrogant Mr. Darcy, the man she despises. A moment of solitude led to a rather improper behaviour from the gentleman and the couple parts promising they would not tell anyone about their little indiscretion. When their secret is uncovered, marriage becomes the only way to save Elizabeth from social disgrace. Forced into an unwanted union, Elizabeth’s other grudges against Mr. Darcy are amplified by the prospect of spending the rest of her life with a man she could never love or respect. The marriage takes place and Mr. and Mrs Darcy must deal with their pride and prejudices as husband and wife.
