In a world of an infinity of alternate universes, could there be a universe where Jane Austen’s beloved characters were actually living, breathing persons? And if a man from modern times knowing of Austen’s signature work were somehow transported to that alternate world, would he think he had gone off the deep end to find himself in a world of characters from the dead hand of an unmarried spinster from Regency England? Most importantly, would he find all concerned acting as if they were reading from a script in a live performance put on just for his benefit? Or would it be a bit more…complicated…than that?
