Fitzwilliam Darcy
From My Mr Darcy and Your Mr Bingley by Linda Beutler
A Study of the Regency Bromance:
Be not alarmed, Bingley, on receiving this letter, by the apprehension of its containing any repetition of the officious interference, which you made clear in your last letter were so disgusting to you…
What happens when a Mr. Darcy with:
- Steadfast loyalty
- Hidden but hopeful romantic leanings
- A secret wealth of sly humor
- Blinkered self-deception in the face of factual evidence
- An abhorrence of disguise of every sort
…Is faced with a thoroughly peeved Charles Bingley, more confident of his own feelings for a certain Miss Bennet? This Mr. Darcy is a master of the #sorrynotsorry method of defending the indefensible.
…You must pardon the freedom with which I demand your attention: your feelings, which I have so undervalued, will bestow it most unwillingly, but I demand it of your justice. I have apologized to Miss Bennet. Or more accurately, I have attempted to apologize to Miss Bennet. Although you crept back to Hertfordshire without a word to anyone, I declare my duplicity to be the more reprehensible. Never the less, I will only add, God bless you.

I did read that story and loved it. Since I borrowed it from KU now is the time to “own” it. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, Sheila! Hope you are enjoying our 12 Days!

Oh yes Linda, this is definitely one of my Darcys. I had read the book a number of times but this series is what kickstarted ny obsession!
I really can’t count the number of times I have watched this. I watch it every time it is on tv and have 2 copies of the DVD(in case one wears out 😂)
This is definitely the best series the BBC has done.
Thank you for choosing Colin and I loved your book as I did all your others. 😍

I do love this montage of our dear boys together. In My Mr. Darcy & Your Mr. Bingley, Bingley has a shade more spine that in canon—just enough to want to know for himself how Jane feels. Jane as more spine, too, and a little power goes to her head!

I have talked about who “Darcy” is for me in other blogs. The characteristic I love most about Darcy is his willingness to change without the incentive of knowing Elizabeth will then accept his hand in marriage. Few men I know would do so.
Linda Beutler
I agree! But rare is the man who will change simply because it is the right thing to do. Jane Austen may have invented the only one!

Sounds like the droll sense of humor I love in Darcy!
Linda Beutler
And at this point, some reluctance to admit he’s wrong without it becoming a competition!

Never sure my comments register with Rafflecopter–very confusing!

I too have two copies in case one wears out or I have to loan one to someone else! Colin is quintessential Darcy, as everyone knows. (Word with 4 syllables.) Thanks for the laughs and heat in your books, Linda.
Linda Beutler
Of course I agree about Darcy, but do you think Crispin Bonham-Carter is the best Bingley? I do. He’s not a guffawing idiot, not silent and dopey. He plays Bingley with just the right mix of insecure deference and eagerness to please.
Suzan Lauder
I agree, Linda. He isn’t a caricature of Bingley, rather, the gentle truth of the character Austen wrote.
Jessie
I do so like a Darcy with a clever sense of humour!
Linda Beutler
Thanks, everyone! My imagined letter to Bingley would have been sent pre-Hunsford, so rather than be truly humble, Darcy nearly competes for who was the most wronged, when I was the one withholding information from a friend. I think he needs one of Lizzy’s set-downs!

Well, I have three copies of P&P ‘95, and I love Colin Firth and Crispin B-C in that adaptation, but the Bingley in the Matthew M version makes me laugh out loud. And Linda’s witty writing is for anyone who ‘dearly loves to laugh.’

I love the 1995 version and have two copies of it. Of course, you know it is my favorite anyway! Enjoyed your post, Linda, and I loved the book! 🙂
