Brigid Huey’s second book, Interrupted Plans, released today, Tuesday, March 2nd. It is available on Amazon in the Kindle version and in paperback. It may also be read on Kindle Unlimited. To add to the excitement of Brigid’s release, Meryton Press is giving away two eBooks of Interrupted Plans.

After reading the back cover copy, Brigid will give us a little background for her book; then she will share the first scene of Chapter One.

Blurb

Suppose Elizabeth Bennet never visited Pemberley…

It is October of 1812. Elizabeth Bennet and her family have seen dramatic changes in the past few months—none of them welcome. Her sister Jane needs a fresh start, and Elizabeth is no less eager to leave behind the pain and confusion of not accepting Mr. Darcy’s proposal.

Fitzwilliam Darcy has not seen Elizabeth since he offered for her—and she adamantly refused him. When she appears in London, he is determined to gain her friendship and make amends. When a carriage mishap throws them together, Darcy does all he can to demonstrate his changed behavior.

Though their renewed acquaintance seems to be growing into a genuine friendship, a family secret constrains Elizabeth. As she falls deeper in love with the man she rejected, does she dare tell him the truth?

Would you like to read the book and learn more about what happens with Lizzy and Darcy? What about the carriage mishap, and how does it throw them together? What is this family secret? Questions and more questions that beg to be answered. Since this is, in part, a cover reveal, let’s move on to the front cover, before we come up with more questions.

Isn’t the woman (Elizabeth) lovely! The painting on the cover of Interrupted Plans is by the same artist as the painting on the front cover of Brigid’s first book, A Chance Encounter in Pemberley Woods, shown at the bottom of this post. Take a look at both ladies. The artist is Armand Point, and the lady on both covers seems to be the same woman. Isn’t that neat! When reading the book, you just may come across a scene that that appears something like the front cover.

Thoughts about the book

It is October of 1812, six months after Mr. Darcy proposed to Elizabeth Bennet. Circumstances have changed rather dramatically. Because of some familial drama, Elizabeth was never able to travel to Pemberley and encounter Mr. Darcy at his home. Interrupted Plans explores the possibility of Darcy and Elizabeth meeting again in society, instead of the comfort and relative privacy of Pemberley. Will they be able to reconnect despite their past history? Is it possible that they might move beyond their awkward past to friendship?

Interrupted Plans follows Elizabeth and Darcy as they discover what they might have had together, and how they might learn to be friends at last. It is a story of second chances, trust, and of course, love!

The excerpt comes from Chapter One and is the first scene in the book.

“Lizzy, I am quite sure this is a mistake.”

“Nonsense, Jane,” Elizabeth answered lightly. “This is exactly what we need.” She squared her shoulders as she stepped off the staircase leading to the large ballroom. In truth, she did not feel half as brave as she appeared.

“It is not that I am ungrateful for your encouragement,” Jane said. “It is only that I find myself rather anxious.”

“Anxious to avoid a certain gentleman, you mean?” Elizabeth glanced sideways at Jane, who bowed her head.

“It is only that a meeting with…with the gentleman would be quite uncomfortable. I should not like to appear as though I were putting myself in his way.”

“Jane, you are sweetness itself, but you need not worry about such a thing. Your attendance at a function to which our uncle was invited could not possibly be construed as putting yourself in anyone’s way!”

Jane nodded but kept her eyes lowered. For her part, Elizabeth could not help scanning the room. They had attended the ball because she and her aunt were in agreement: for her own happiness, Jane must move about in society.

Elizabeth hoped that Mr Bingley would not be present as well. She had little reason to think he would be, considering the affair was hosted by a man of trade. A part of her did wonder how Mr Bingley might act towards her sister now that their circumstances had changed. Indeed, circumstances had changed so much since the gentleman was last at Netherfield that Elizabeth—convinced though she was that Mr Bingley loved Jane—was not at all sure of his reaction to their presence.

If Mr Darcy were with him, she could well imagine his reaction. Elizabeth shook her head as she and Jane moved slowly through the crush. Thinking of Mr Darcy always left her thoughts in disarray. They had not crossed paths since that day in Rosings Park when he handed her the letter that had shattered her confidence.

Her gaze fell on a fair-haired young man standing near the refreshments. Another moment, and the gentleman turned, revealing a jovial countenance. It was him! Mr Bingley.

What has happened to cause a change in the circumstances of Lizzy and Jane? What did you think about the excerpt? Did it leave you wanting to read more? We hope so!

The back cover depicts another scene/s, even though the carriages may be slightly different. We beg artist privilege on the carriage.

What a gorgeous cover! Yes it is so like Chance Encounter 🥰.
I like the sound of this story as it seems Elizabeth does regret her refusal and would be definitely attracted to Darcy when they meet again. I’m not sure about Bingley and all I can hope is that he left his obnoxious sisters at home?
Please let me know if it’s very angsty so I will know to hold off reading until I’m in a better frame of mind? Saying that I will definitely be reading it and have added it to my list.
Thank you for sharing this excerpt and this lovely cover.

Thank you, Glynis! I am so indebted to Janet for creating such a beautiful cover – again! Don’t worry, I don’t consider my work very angsty. This is a gentle read with just the right amount of romantic angst to create tension, but not so much that you’ll be reaching for tissues!

I’m excited about this premise because there are two opportunities for Elizabeth to know Mr. Darcy better: this ball and the carriage accident. I hope the carriage accident is a mild one, as I’ve read carriage accident stories before that have sad parts to them. The cover is stunning. Really fantastic! Best of luck on your release, Brigid. That cover should draw them in, never mind the intriguing premise!

Thank you so much, Suzan! I’m in love with the cover. I am so impressed with Janet that she was able to create something that so masterfully matches the book itself. Don’t worry, I really shy away from very sad things, so the carriage mishap won’t be too awful for them. Thanks for your support!

I’m intrigued! The cover is lovely, but more importantly to tantalize me is the blurb. What has happened to Jane? Is it just her desolation over losing Bingley or something more? It will also be nice to see a friendship blossom between ODC. Putting this on my wish list. Thanks for entering me in the drawing.
